Watch this short video to understand the importance of keeping a 20' clearance between a parked car and intersection or crosswalk. Thanks to Oxnard Police Department for sharing information that is applicable to ALL those who park in California!
With the implementation of California’s new daylighting law (Assembly Bill 413), effective January 1, 2025, cities are tasked with enhancing pedestrian safety by maintaining clear visibility at intersections and crosswalks.
The law mandates that vehicles cannot stop, stand, or park within 20 feet of any marked or unmarked crosswalk, or within 15 feet of a crosswalk with a curb extension.
This measure, known as the "Daylighting to Save Lives Bill," is designed to reduce pedestrian accidents by improving visibility for drivers and pedestrians at intersections. A 60-day grace period will be in effect until March 1, 2025, during which warnings will be issued instead of fines. After the grace period, violators will face fines, with typical ticket prices ranging from $40 to $108, depending on local jurisdiction.
